Getting The Disabled Working And Included Into Society Was The Purpose Of ADA

The US Congress came to the realization that due to many obstacles, there were a lot of disabled US citizens unable to work and thrive in our economy. There were problems in the transportation industry that kept the disabled from accessing buses and public transportation. There were obstructions to opening doors or even accessing doors because of steps, and there were problems with restrooms that couldn’t accept a wheelchair. It was researched and scientifically theorized that millions of Americans were being denied the opportunity to work because of huge problems with accessibility. Then, the private businesses needed to make the same accommodations in order to enable these people to work, shop and enjoy restaurants along with their families and friends just like everyone else. They had the equal opportunity provided other individuals based on race, color, sex, national origin, age, religion and now disabilities.

Private Employers With More Than 15 Workers Had To Comply

With the ADA regulations, it was prohibited to fire anyone because of their disabilities. It also meant that advancement, compensation, training, and hiring practices had to comply as well. Basically, if a person was qualified to do a job, their disabilities couldn’t be considered.

Now that the ADA act has been in force for over 25 years it’s become a part of society that most Americans expect without question.
